Barns, Tubbs lead Martian girls cagers past Hamady 53-48

The wins just keep on coming for the Goodrich varsity girls basketball team.
Maribeth Barns scored 12 points and Andrea Tubbs 11 as the Martians defeated host Hamady 53-48, improving their record to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the Genesee Area Conference Red Division, two games ahead of second-place LakeVille.
The teams battled to a 14-14 tie at the end of the first quarter before Goodrich outscored Hamady 16-11 in the second period to take a 30-25 halftime lead. The Martians withstood a Hamady comeback attempt in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
Goodrich coach Jason Gray said no one person has been responsible for the Martians? success so far this season.
‘We’ve really had a lot of big contributions from everyone,? he said. ‘We’ve had balanced scoring, rebounding and assists. It’s been the epitome of a team effort, and everyone’s contributing.
The Martians return to action Oct. 14 when they travel to Genesee.
