Two men jailed in connection with a bank robbery near Ann Arbor are being investigated for last week’s Oxford Bank robbery in Clarkston.
“They match the description pretty good ? the FBI is handling the case,” said Lt. Dirk Feneley, Independence Township sheriff’s substation commander.
Cedric Thompson of Detroit, 44, and Darren Shannon of Ferndale, 44, were arrested, Oct. 1, in connection with a bank robbery in Chelsea, said Det. William Baldwin, Independence Township substation.
“They’re under investigation for multiple bank robberies along the I-96 corridor, and are possibly linked to the Oxford Bank robbery,” said Baldwin, who met with investigators from the FBI, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s, and other agencies about the case last week.
The FBI has claimed jurisdiction, filing federal charges, Oct. 2, for bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime.
Two masked men, one with a handgun, robbed Oxford Bank on N. Main Street in Clarkston, Sept. 30. Key Bank in Chelsea near Ann Arbor was robbed in a similar way, two men wearing dark pants, dark hooded sweatshirts, and gloves, and carrying handguns, the next day.
The Chelsea suspects were apprehended later that day, Oct. 1. Thompson was pulled over and arrested after a car chase in Washtenaw County. Shannon was arrested after a standoff with Washtenaw County SWAT in Pittsfield Township.
