The varsity girls basketball team took their lumps from Oakland Activities Association teams this week.
It began with a 42-9 loss at Farmington Harrison. Head Coach Al Poynter said the team got off to a slow start and then had a poor offensive second half.
‘Harrison came out with great energy and made us pay for our mistakes. This is one of the bumps in the journey that we will improve from,? he added.
They closed out the week with a 46-34 loss at home against Birmingham Groves on Friday, Jan. 14.
Oxford fell behind early, trailing 15-8 after the first quarter and 26-15 at halftime. Junior Sam Myers and junior Michelle Gilmore each had 10 points for the Wildcats.
‘Our girls fought to the bitter end, but we just couldn’t get over the hump,? Poynter said.
‘While we are taking some lumps, we are gaining valuable experience that will pay off for us as long as we keep working hard, staying positive and staying together as a team,? he said.
They play at Avondale on Friday.
