Atlas Township completes deal for new cell tower

The Atlas Township Board of Trustees announced on Monday night that an agreement with Indiana-based Fortune-Wireless Corporation has been reached for the construction of a cell tower.
Terms of the deal include a 25-year lease renewable every five years, along with payments of $1,500 per month with a 2 1/2 percent annual escalator. The 177-foot structure, which includes a 7-foot lightning rod, will be built behind the Atlas Township Hall on Gale Road north of Goodrich High School on township property.
The tower has the capacity to accommodate up to five co-locations for additional antennas.
Rick Misek, township planning commission director, said Fortune has two years to begin construction.
‘We don’t have a date for construction to begin,? he said. ‘The money will go into the township general fund.?
An access road to the tower will originate from the township parking lot.
