The faces behind Clarkston’s golf team’s success ? seniors Zach McDonald, Pat McIlrath, Mike Horn, Rob Ronk and sophomore Matt Fuller ? are the Athletes of the Week as they pushed the Wolves to a sixth place finish at the state finals on Oct. 14-15.
‘They all get along great and are good character people. All five of them are real good golfers and people and they are going to be successful in life,? said Clarkston Golf Coach Tim Kaul.
Between the five, Clarkston averaged 78.2 strokes in tournaments and 38.9 strokes in each dual match.
Rob Ronk, the captain of the team, averaged 77.3 strokes in tournaments and 37.9 in dual match play. He is looking into playing golf at either Grand Valley State University, Oakland University, University of Detroit Mercy or Wayne State next year.
Mike Horn averaged a 78 in tournaments and 38.1 in dual meets. He is also hoping to play golf in college. Currently, Grand Valley, Oakland, Wayne and Ferris State are on Horn’s list.
Zach McDonald, along with Horn and Ronk, played in the state finals for Clarkston last year as well. He averaged a 78 in tournaments and a 40.8 in dual meets. McDonald is looking into attending either the University of Michigan or Albion. He would like to play golf in college should he choose to go to Albion.
Pat McIlrath averaged 79.3 in tournaments and 38.2 in dual matches this year. He is planning on attending Indiana-Weslyen next year and hopes to make their golf team.
Matt Fuller averaged 78.2 in tournaments and 39.3 in dual meets. He is already excited about next year and would like to join and play in the American Junior Golf Association this summer.
