Cameron Krausman won his second straight Oakland County Parks Annual Junior Golf Tournament at Springfield Oaks on June 22. Krausman won the boys 10 and under division.
Krausman, 10, already has several tournament wins, but said his favorite tournament is the Oakland County Parks Tournament.
‘I like it because it’s the first tournament I won,? Krausman said. ‘Winning the second time was a lot of fun too.?
Krausman’s other notable finishes were first place at a Junior Optimist Qualifier at Royal Oak Country Club, second place at an Optimist Qualifier at Liberty Golf Center, sixth place at the Junior Optimist Tournament and he has won tournaments at Paint Creek Golf Course.
He has played golf for nearly five years. He began playing in his backyard after his sixth birthday.
‘For my sixth birthday my dad’s best friend bought me a set of golf clubs,? Krausman said. ‘I was excited to get them and used to play in our backyard. It’s a lot of fun. My favorite part is chipping.?
Krausman began to show signs of promise on the golf course. Krausman will turn 11 on July 14, but already has a few key victories over his dad, Ken.
‘I’ve beaten my dad a couple times. He just said, ‘Wow,? when I won,? Krausman said. ‘After tournaments he tells me not to get over confident and it’s good I won. He’s always proud of me.?
Krausman said he typically plays four or five times a week and likes to get in the practice.
His long term goal is to see how far he can go with golf.
‘I want to win some tournaments so I can get some scholarship money,? Krausman said. ‘My goal is to play college golf and pro golf. But I want to get to college golf first.?
