Art Center announces scholarship winners

Student artists from around the Orion, Oxford and Rochester school districts were honored recently in the ninth annual Joan Brace Scholarship Exhibit, which runs at the Orion Art Center until Saturday, June 2. Over 90 works are on display.
“It is hard to believe that this is the work of students. There is a lot of talent in this exhibit,” said Orion Art Center administrator Cindy Wheeler.
As part of the exhibit, the Orion Art Center awarded $4,300 in scholarship money to graduating seniors.
The Joan Brace Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship funded by the Art Center, was awarded to Brad Lawrence of Lake Orion.
Three $500 awards, funded by Oxford Band, were given to Evan Hinze, Diana Arce and Mariko Yanagita, all of Lake Orion.
The Steven Crowder Memorial Fund awarded two $500 awards to Nadia Lopez of Lake Orion and Hyoji Lim of Rochester Hills.
Cyrowski Commercial Realtors awarded two $250 Marce Cyrowski Awards to Christine Smith of Lake Orion and Michael Franklin of Rochester Hills.
A new award, the $300 Helen Cunniff Award funded by The Village Trophy Shop and the Orion Knights of Columbus, was added this year and awarded to Erica Ramanuskas of Rochester Hills.
Wheeler said that the Orion Art Center is grateful to Oxford Bank, The Steven Crowder Memorial Fund, Cyrowski Commercial Realtors, The Village Trophy Shop and the Lake Orion Knights of Columbus for their generosity in making this scholarship program successful.
Regular hours at the Orion Art Center are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information on this exhibit or other art center programs, call (248)693-4986 or visit www.orionartcenter.org.
