Goodrich – The former village council’s last act was preliminarily OK’ing language spelling out village dissolution procedures.
At a special Feb. 21 meeting, four members of the Village of Goodrich Council gave the nod to sections of ‘enacted amendments to the general law village act providing a procedure for disincorporation of a village, and…elections regarding disincorporation in both the village and any township in which the village is located? (see ‘Changing the charter?, below).
All four council members present voted to approve ‘laying (the resolution) on the table for 30 days,? said village clerk Patricia Schierup.
The recent recall of the entire village council doesn’t affect the 30-day period, says village attorney Tom McKenney.
‘It’s 30 days to allow the village staff to publish notice of the proposed amendment in the newspaper,? said McKenney.
‘After 30 days, whoever constitutes the village council, they’re in a position to proceed with a resolution.?
If two of three interim village council members approve the charter amendment, the ballot language will be sent to the governor’s office.
With an Aug. 2 election date in mind, the charter amendment ballot language will be sent to the county, as the county must receive ballot language 70 days prior to an election, McKenney said.
An Aug. 2 election date is not out of reach, says McKenney.
‘I’ve been working with the attorney general’s office to get the ballot and resolution language properly couched,? he said. ‘I think there’ll be a pretty quick turnaround.?
Laying the resolution on the table was approved via a rollcall vote, in which Keith Walworth, Mike Glynn, Jayme Simmonds, and Adam Kline voted yes. Council member Angela Adamec was not in attendance at the Feb. 21 special council meeting.
