Chelsea Rae Budrow, a fifth grader at North Sashabaw Elementary, has the opportunity to travel around the world with the ‘People to People? organization.
Budrow was recommended by an anonymous individual from her school to be interviewed by the ‘People to People? Student Ambassadors Program. In order to participate in the interviewing process, an individual must be nominated. This is not a widely publicized organization, so when Budrow heard the news, she was thrilled.
Once the interview process began, Budrow prepared for her chance to be chosen into the program. First, she was called for the initial meeting where the organization explained the venture she would partake, the criteria and tuition. An interview date was then set. With the interview scheduled, Budrow was responsible for attaining three recommendation forms ?? two from teachers and one from another adult.
‘I was very nervous before the interview,? said Budrow. ‘They asked us questions that I wasn’t expecting, but I did good.?
The program chooses participants based on academics, personality and the treatment of others. With these characteristics, recommendation forms and her nomination, Budrow was one of forty students selected to travel the world as a member of the ‘British and Irish Adventure.?
‘I feel that someone felt she was special enough to be a part of this program, so I feel she deserves every shot she can get,? said Mary Jane, Budrow’s mother.
The objective of the program is to promote international understanding while building leadership skills among America’s youth. On Budrow’s 14-day adventure, she will travel to Ireland, rock climb and kayak with local experts near Wicklow Mountains, and experience lively historic Dublin.
While in England, Budrow will explore the Tower of London, meet a member of Parliament, attend a hit show in the famous West End Theater and ride the giant London Eye.
While in Scotland, Budrow will interact with the Scots of Edinburgh during an evening of folk dancing, bagpipe playing and storytelling. In Wales, she will visit Orme Copper Mine and Druid’s Circle. Budrow will also earn high school and college credit.
‘I am so excited,? said Budrow. ‘This is an opportunity of a lifetime to go to a different country and meet new people.?
Budrow has been fortunate to take in sponsors; however, has yet to accumulate her total tuition amount.
The program’s total tuition is $3,995, and that includes transportation, accommodations, meals and educational activities.
