If the turnout for the recent Brandon outdoor volleyball tournament was any indication, local residents can expect the tournament to become a summer fixture.
On Aug. 4-5, Brandon High School, 1025 S. Ortonville Road, Ortonville, hosted an outdoor volleyball tournament, which was split into two different sections: the coed tournament on Aug. 4, and the all-women/all-men tournament on Aug. 5.
A total of 48 teams competed in the two-day tournament, 22 on Aug. 4 and 26 on Aug. 5. The event was a combined fundraiser for the Lapeer East and Brandon volleyball programs.
Brandon coach Brian Williams said the event was very successful.
‘It turned out better than expected,? he said. ‘The weather was perfect, the soccer field was in great condiction, and the 48 teams that played were more than we expected. We had several volunteers and sponsors, which made the tournament go smooth. We’ll be running the tournament for years to come.?
