The Heart of Clarkston Holiday Parade came through downtown, and the amount of volunteers was touching.
The Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce arranged an Afterglow party as a thank you to all parade volunteers. The event was an opportunity for coordinators and volunteers to gather over food and drinks at The Union.
‘We thought it would be a nice idea to have this get together after the parade,? said Terri Bendes, chamber event enthusiast/planner. ‘They could come and mix and mingle, warm up, have some refreshments and share some quality time together.?
The parade is an event that brings the whole community together. But, the volunteers came together in advance to guarantee a perfect event.
The Volunteers consist of chamber members, octagon students and honor students, making a total of about 60 individuals.
The group began working on the parade almost three months ago. They helped promote the event, get Santa to come, organize staging for the parade, sent information to the community, worked with the police department to close roads and much more.
‘Our chamber volunteers are the backbone to our events,? said Bendes. ‘Without these people, we would not have events.?
