Goodrich-Dorothy Booth once calculated grade point averages by hand and knew most students by their first name.
Now, more than 30 years later a computer program tallies students? grades and exchanges with students are not so common.
‘It’s time to retire,? says Booth, secretary to the superintendent who officially retired on June 15.
A Flint native and a Mt. Morris High School graduate Booth first worked in the Flint Northwestern School District, and was hired in 1973 as a secretary in the Goodrich Middle School office. Two years later transferred to Reid Elementary before accepting the position of Goodrich High School office secretary in the early 1980s. Of the photographs lining the front halls of former GHS principals, Booth has worked for all but former principal Roy Stacy, she said.
In 1990, she began working year-round in accounts payable at the district’s business office before being hired to handle payroll. When finance secretary Betty Ladzinski was tragically killed in a 1999 car accident, Booth filled the position before being approached last year for the job of Judy Affeldt, secretary to former superintendent Dr .Green who retired in 2004. Booth then worked for her daughter, current Goodrich superintendent Kim Hart.
‘This past school year has been the most stressful due to the budget situation,? said Booth. It seems the state demands more each year. The number of reports are way out of hand’we’re understaffed with more to do.?
‘I’ve never had a problem with these Goodrich kids, they’re all very respectful.?
