The Orion Art Center will feature a special sculpture and pottery exhibit by Addison Township resident Maria Testaguzza from November 14-22.
This is Testaguzza’s first ever public showing, which will feature her sculpture series called ‘Seven Sisters,? which are bronze bust sculptures of women from various photos taken around the world during tragic times.
The ‘Seven Sisters? are an Afghan girl, a Sudanese refugee, a grieving Beslan Russian mother, a Nigerian escaped slave, a tsunami victim, a woman called Anger Portrayed and a Hurricane Katrina victim.
The series represents ‘the commonality of the resilient feminine spirit that is shared by women throughout the ages, regardless of nationality or borders.?
Testaguzza will also show her nine bronze nude sculptures which are about 12-inches tall during the exhibit.
The Addison resident, has been working with clay for most of her life. She studied under the watchful eye of her father, Gino Testaguzza, a renowned sculptor with works all over Michigan.
‘Maria is a gifted sculptor who is able to evoke incredible emotion through her work,? said Orion Art Center director Reggie Harrison. ‘We are proud to bring her sculptures to the public. Her pottery is quite unique and well priced, so I think the exhibit offers something for everyone.?
The bronze exhibit will be complemented with ‘Best of Show? paintings by winners of the Orion Art Center’s 2006 exhibits.
A special reception will take place on Friday, November 17 from 7-10 p.m. with live music by the group CPR beginning at 8 p.m.
