Engineering consultant renews 2-year contract
The Addison Township Board of Trustees Monday night unanimously approved a contract to have the Southfield-based Municipal Engineering Consultants (MEC) continue performing engineering services for the township.
MEC recently changed its name to Landtech and lowered their rates and were seeking approval for a two-year contract.
Services would include an individual from MEC to represent the township exclusively, provide engineering plan reviews of site plans, subdivisions, site condominiums, private roads and provide spot inspections of various construction sites, among other things.
Fees for MEC’s work would be applied to both private and township developments at the time it’s needed.
Township attorney Robert Davis said MEC’s fees are consistent with what most engineering consultants are currently charging.
Prosecution fees turned over to sheriff’s dept.
The Addison Township Board of Trustees Monday night voted unanimously to adopt a resolution handing over the cost of prosecution, except for zoning violations, to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department instead of the township footing the bill.
The township had been paying prosecution costs on tickets issued by sheriff’s deputies out of its general fund ? even though the sheriff’s department receives the revenue from the tickets.
The sheriff’s department expected to incur $20,000 in prosecution costs for the 2007-2008 fiscal year.
Clerk Pauline Bennett said the township has been in contact with the Michigan Townships Association and their auditors about the situation.
In a March 29 letter to township Supervisor Bob Koski, the township auditor said ‘it would be both appropriate and allowable (to have the sheriff’s department bear the prosecution costs), as the services are directly related to police operations.?
Township attorney Robert Davis said the township has been discussing handing over the prosecution costs to the sheriff’s department for the last two years. He noted other townships have made the same move.
