Rain, rain, go away and don’t come back another day.
Those could have been some of the thoughts of varsity lacrosse coach Joe Zmikly as the inclement weather caused games against North Farmington and Swartz Creek to be postponed.
‘The toughest part was constant weather issues,? Zmikly said. ‘You have two good practices in a row and then that rhythm gets thrown off, but you just have to battle through it and keep working hard.
The only game the Wildcats were able to get in was a heartbreaking 9-7 loss to Bay City Western on Monday, May 2.
Oxford led 6-3 heading into halftime, but wasn’t able to maintain the momentum they built in the first half.
‘It was a heartbreaker because that was a game we were looking at that we could win, but the good news is we play them again and things should be different a second time around,? Zmikly said.
Sophomore Piper Thaler led the Wildcats with a hat-trick, while senior Austin Bryant had two goals and senior Konrad Thaler and junior Nolan Salani each had one goal.
With the loss, the Wildcats record drops to 0-6 on the season.
They have home games against Saginaw Heritage on Thursday, May 5 and against Swartz Creek, a make-up game, on Friday, May 6.
Both games begin at 7 p.m.
