Orion felt a little ‘British soccer invasion? when Orion Township Parks & Recreation hosted their annual British Soccer Camps for young soccer players.
According to Recreation Program Supervisor Jennifer Rowe, this is the fifth year Parks & Recreation has hosted the camp, and once again, the camp went great.
‘I’ve never had an unhappy participant,? Rowe said. ‘Kids and parents love the camp and the coaches.?
Each coach the campers work with holds a national coaching license from Great Britain and are also trained for their involvement with British Soccer Camp.
Coaches help participants sharpen their existing soccer skills, while also working on individual foot skill development and technical and tactical practices. Campers also take part in small-sided games and coached scrimmages.
A ‘minikicker? camp was offered for four and five-year-olds, with a half-day player development camp for six to 18 year olds. A full-day player development camp was offered for serious players between 11 and 18 years old.
According to Rowe, the camp, which had about 100 participants this year, is offered throughout the United States by Challenger Sports, an organization with a strong reputation.
