 LAKE ORION — The Horizon League selected LOHS alumni Allison Sherman as one of its NCAA Woman of the Year nominees, the University of Detroit Mercy announced on Aug. 16.
The Electrical and Computer Engineering student holds a school record in the 5,000 meters, and broke a record that stood for 20 years during this track and field season by completing the 10,000 meters in 35 minutes, 7.45 seconds at the Drake Relays.
Sherman also earned nine All-Academic Team honors in cross country and track and field and four All-League honors in cross country, according to the press release.
Sherman’s other honors and awards include the 2024 Kevin Donner Most Valuable Player award, Detroit Mercy President award and more.
When she was not competing, Sherman also volunteered at the Detroit Mercy’s Women in Sports Day, Calihan Trunk or Treating and the Detroit Free Press Marathon.
The Woman of the Year Selection Committee will choose the top 30 honorees from the conference-level nominees, totaling 10 from each division, who will be announced in the fall. The committee is made up of representatives from NCAA membership, according to the press release.
Cleveland State softball player Jenna Deang is the league’s other nominee.
