The Independence Township Board approved a three percent salary increase for all non-union salary employees for 2004.
‘It is my recommendation that we approve at least a three percent raise for all non-union employees so they can keep pace with the union employees,? Supervisor Dale Stuart said.
The raises were approved by a 7-0 vote.
The changes leave the Supervisor with a $70,900 salary while the Clerk and Treasurer have a salary of $63,300.

In other action the board:
? Approved the reclassification of Brian Benway from maintenance person to a senior maintenance person.
? Began discussions within the board on whether to have the township take over Sashabaw Plains Cemetery on Maybee Road. The item was on the agenda for discussion only and the board wants more information obtained.
? Renewed their membership in the Clinton River Watershed Council.
