Blackhawk cagers capture defensive battle

No, the final score of the Brandon girls basketball team’s Oct. 28 game against visiting Fenton is not a misprint.
Fortunately for the Blackhawks, they came out on the winning end of a 25-21 contest against the Tigers, improving their record to 6-10 overall and 6-3 in the Flint Metro League. Fenton fell to 6-10 and 4-5.
‘The kids had a pretty good defensive game plan going in,? Coach Bryan Ray said of the Blackhawks. ‘We did a good job on their scorers and gave a good defensive effort.?
Freshman Meg Donnay scored 12 points to lead the Blackhawks, who are currently in second place in the Flint Metro, three games behind Linden.
Brandon still has a chance of winning the league co-championship, but Linden (which is currently 9-0 in league play) would have to lose all three of their remaining league contests.
Ray acknowledged that such a pratfall by Linden is unlikely, so he said the Blackhawks will concentrate on taking care of their own business.
‘We want to improve our offensive efficiency and compete for a district title,? he said.
