Led by junior running back Derek Foyt, the Brandon varsity football squad notched its second win of the season Oct. 17.
Foyt ran for 211 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Blackhawks to a 33-6 win against host LakeVille, improving the Blackhawks? mark to 2-6 overall.
‘Our execution was much better in this game,? Brandon coach Ron Gill said. ‘Defensively, we did a better job of reading our keys. That puts you in a position to be successful.?
Gill also said Foyt and seniors Devin White, Justin Tripp and Matt Ruppert ‘probably had their best games of the year.?
Foyt scored the first of his three touchdowns in the first quarter on a 58-yard run, giving the Blackhawks a 6-0 lead when the point-after attempt was blocked.
Brandon tacked on another touchdown in the second quarter, as White connected with Ruppert on a nine-yard touchdown pass. Ruppert also caught a two-point conversion pass, giving the Blackhawks a 14-0 halftime lead.
Foyt picked up where he left off in the third quarter, scoring on a seven-yard touchdown run. Mike Cybluski’s point-after kick gave Brandon a 21-0 lead. Foyt then scored his third touchdown of the game in the fourth on a 69-yard run. The point-after attempt was unsuccessful, but the Blackhawks held a commanding 27-0 lead.
After LakeVille scored its only points of the game in the fourth, Brandon wrapped up the game’s scoring as White ran for a 79-yard touchdown.
For the game, White ran 13 times for 105 yards and a touchdown, and completed 5-of-11 passes for 90 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Tripp led the Blackhawks defensively with 16 tackles.
Brandon wrapped up its season Oct. 27 with a trip to Lapeer East to take on the Eagles. In order for the Blackhawks to conclude their season on a winning note, Gill said they will have to continue to execute properly, as well as protect the football and stay disciplined on defense.
