Fenton spoils Brandon seniors? last home game

Brandon’s football team almost gave their senior class a final home win to remember.
However, the Blackhawks, who trailed 16-0 at the half against visiting Fenton Oct. 10, couldn’t quite come all the way back. As a result, the Tigers defeated the Blackhawks 27-21 in Brandon’s final home game this season.
Turnovers, as they have throughout the season, plagued the Blackhawks against Fenton and helped the Tigers build the sizable halftime lead.
‘First and foremost, you can’t turn the ball over four times and expect to win,? Brandon coach Ron Gill said. ‘You have to protect the ball.?
It was the Blackhawks? seniors that figured in the second-half scoring. Nate Perry scored on a five-yard touchdown run, while Joe Turscak scored on a 90-yard kickoff return and Devin White took it in from a yard out.
Matt Ruppert caught a two-point conversion pass from White, and Mike Cybulski tacked on an extra point.
Matt Rife and Justin Tripp led the Blackhawks with 11 tackles each, while White added 10.
The Blackhawks traveled to LakeVille for an Oct. 17 contest. ‘It’s going to take our best effort,? Gill said. ‘Again, we have to eliminate turnovers and mistakes and not put ourselves in a hole.?
They wrap up their season Oct. 24 with a 7:30 p.m. game against host Lapeer East. On Oct. 17, the Eagles dropped a 27-21 contest to crosstown rival Lapeer West, falling to 2-2 in league play and 3-4 overall.
