Church of Christ plans homecoming and dedication

Lake Orion’s Church of Christ is planning a day of festivities on Oct. 12 to celebrate the completion of a new wing for the church on Hemingway Road.
A homecoming and dedication will be held to commemorate the 4,200 square-foot addition to the church, which was completed in September after over a year of construction.
The Church of Christ, originally built in 1982 at the corner of Clarkston and Hemingway Roads, has nearly 200 members, and had grown out of its former worship space. Half of the funds for the new addition came from contributions from church members, who also volunteered time to help make the addition complete, inside and out.
The dedication service will take place during the church’s normal Sunday worship time of 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the public is welcome to attend. The day will also serve as a homecoming for past members no longer living in the area.
“We’ve broken the program into the past, present and the future,” explained Church of Christ Community Outreach Coordinator John Swantek. “We’re giving credit to the people here before us.”
The service will also remind church members that the Church of Christ is there to serve the community.
“Our intent is to continue growing,” said Swantek.
Following the service there will be a potluck dinner and a chance for current church members to get to know some of the former members who have moved from the area.
“It’s a homecoming to past members, so they can be part of the dedication,” Swantek said. “Past members will speak about their memories, and some are coming from out of state.”
Although the church hasn’t sent out invitations to everyone in the community, they would like the community to know that the dedication is also for them.
“It’s dedicated to all the people in the community,” said Swantek. “It’s open to everyone.”
The Church of Christ holds a Sunday service at 10:30 a.m., and an evening Sunday service at 5 p.m. Wednesday devotional and Bible study is held at 7 p.m.
The church is located at 1080 Hemingway Road, and can be reached by phone at 693-7242. The church’s website is www.lochurchofchrist.org.
