At the Lake Orion Village Council meeting on Nov. 11, the council re-elected members and announced they will be seeking an additional council member as well.
Ken Van Portfliet was re-elected as council president and Bradley Mathisen was elected as Pro-Tem President.
“This is really a team effort and I think we have a great council,” Van Portfliet said.
The council also appointed Council Members to boards and commissions.
Van Portfliet was appointed to the Planning Commission and Downtown Development Authority Board, while Shauna Brown was re-appointed to the planning commission and Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.
John D. Ranville and Doug Hobbs were appointed as Orion Community Cable Communications Commission representatives, and Bradley Mathisen and Brown were appointed as the Paint Creek Trailways Commission representative and alternate, respectively.
After appointment of boards and commissions took place, the council and Clerk Susan Galeczka discussed the council vacancy.
Due to lack of an election petition or write-in campaign for the Nov. 8 General Election, Councilmember Christian Mills is no longer on the village council, said Galeczka.
The council must now fill the vacancy within by Dec.14. Mills can reapply to fill the seat, as can other residents.
Applications for the position are not available in person at the Lake Orion Village Hall, 21 E. Church Street.
Requirements of applicants can be discussed while picking up the application. Applications must be received by Dec. 7 and an appointment will be made at the Dec. 12 regular village meeting.
On Nov. 21 the village council will be holding a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. regarding planning and implantation of capital improvements in the Village of Lake Orion.
The public is welcome to come and express their views on the different projects being planned for the village.
