Lake Orion’s girls’ swim and dive team posted a strong fourth-place finish at the OAA Red League Championships held Nov. 4-5 at Lake Orion High School.
Senior Sarah Hennings earned 1st place in the 100 Fly for her third consecutive league title in that event. Hennings also was second in the 100 Back. Sophomore Claire Abbasse came in 2nd place in both the 50 Free and 100 Free sprint freestyle events, while senior Zoe Quinn came in 3rd. Senior Amanda Keller came in seventh in the 100 Breast and junior Eliana Ritt placed eighth in the 200 Individual Medley. Those same five swimmers also earned All-League honors with championship titles in two relays.
Also contributing top-16 finishes in individual events were: freshman Olivia Cassise, ninth in the 100 Back and 11 th in the 200 Individual Medley; Diener, 14 th in the 100 Breast and 16 th in the 200 Free; Pozzo, 14 th in the 50 Free; Hannah Quinn, 11 th in the 100 Breast; and Ritt, 12 th in the 100 Fly.
“Our success at the league championships was due to every swimmer and diver being committed to their individual and team goals,” said Head Coach Darin Abbasse. “This was demonstrated throughout the meet and was reflected by the team having 10 individuals extend their season for the state championships.”
Representing the Lady Dragons at the D1 MHSAA State Championship meet Nov. 18-19 at Oakland University will be Abbasse, Cassise, Diener, Hennings, Keller, Pozzo, H. Quinn, Z. Quinn, and Ritt. Colleen Campbell will compete in the Regional Diving Championship on Nov. 10.
