Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for tips in the vandalism of the Little Free Library box in Depot Park.
‘This is ridiculous ? hopefully we’ll find out who did this,? said Sgt. Richard Cummins of Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Someone set fire to the library box and books sometime over the weekend, said Jennifer Hermann, Girl Scout troop leader.
‘We will have to take the whole thing apart, replace the back wood and shelf for sure, the door won’t close, so that will need repair, sand all the blackness from the smoke and repaint,? Hermann said. ‘I’m thinking the whole thing will need to be taken down and worked on.?
Deputies will review video surveillance, which was set up in reponse to previous vandalism in the park, Cummins said.
The community has come out to support the rebuilding effort, Hermann said.
‘We are overwhelmed by everyone’s support,? she said. ‘We are working on a plan to get our LFL back up and running. In the meantime, our Main Street LFL will be open all winter. Please visit it on the corner Main and Washington streets.?
