Junior Brad Lawrence and sophomore Trevor DeWitt led the Brandon boys cross-country team to a solid finish at the Carman-Ainsworth Cavalier Classic Aug. 28.
The Blackhawks finished with 309 points in the Division II-III segment of the invitational, good for fifth place overall out of nine teams. Powers Catholic took first overall with 35 points, while Lake Fenton took second with 125 points.
Lawrence ran the 5,000 meter course in 18:38, while DeWitt finished with a time of 19:18. Both runners earned medals for their efforts.
Other Brandon varsity competitors were Chris Holton (19:33), Jared Blunk (19:37), Scotty Steudle (21:43), Steve Sanday (21:58) and Dylan Kent (22:58).
Brandon took a 4-4 record into their Sept. 4 meet at Mt. Morris. Their next meet is Thursday, Sept. 11 at Chesaning.
