BHS netters start on positive note at tourney

Brandon’s girls tennis team returned from summer vacation in good fashion.
The Blackhawks traveled to a tournament in Lapeer Aug. 14 and came away tied for third place with Lapeer East. Davison won the tournament, while Romeo took second.
In singles action, senior Nicole Barth took third place at #1 singles, while Jessica Sandy lost both her matches at #2 singles. Nicole Schuhrke won the consolation bracket at #3 singles, finishing with a 2-1 record, while Monica Lambert also complied a 2-1 record at #4 singles, finishing third.
In doubles competition, Elizabeth Bilbey and Amanda Bohr won the consolation bracket at #1 singles, finishing with a 2-1 record. Sisters Michelle and Dani Ashford took second place at #2 doubles. Kristin Nedry and Holly Gerber lost in the consolation finals at #3 doubles, finishing with a 1-2 record on the day, while Lisa Stach and Susan Gajdos finished in second place at #4 doubles with a 2-1 record in the day’s action.
The Blackhawks return to action Aug. 25 when they host Flushing at 4 p.m.
