Goodrich-After serving 30 years in public education in the State of Michigan, including Goodrich Area Schools, Superintendent Scott Bogner has announced his retirement from the district at the end of the current school year June 30.
The decision was announced on Wednesday.
‘While we regret his departure, his leadership initiatives will remain and enhance our district for years to come,? said Dave Cramer, school board president. ‘He has been an exemplary role model for all staff and educators, with an unerring commitment to what is best for students. We wish him the best as he embarks on the next chapter in his life.?
In June 2012 Bogner was hired by the board, replacing district superintendent John Fazer.
Bogner, 52, had served as Grant superintendent since 2006 after working as principal at Evart High School for about nine years. For ten years Bogner was the assistant principal/athletic director at Marion Public Schools. His education included a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Central Michigan University. Bogner has taken classes in management from Colorado Technical University.

During his time with the district, Bogner led the district in completing the bond program and led staff in efforts to improve instruction, which has led to improving achievement scores. In addition, he balanced and improved the budget picture, increased revenues and negotiated contracts with employee groups.
‘He built a strong team of district leaders who will help the leadership transition over the next several months,? said Cramer, who added that a search process will begin immediately and the community will be updated as the search plan is clarified and implemented.
‘The Goodrich Area Schools is and will continue to be a destination district where parents are proud to send their children, with stable enrollment growth,? Cramer said. ‘We value and appreciate the strong partnerships between parents, teachers, staff and the entire Goodrich school community. These core values will guide our search for the next superintendent.?
In 2012 the board selected the Michigan Leadership Institute at a cost of $6,700. A total of 31 candidates applied for the superintendent position prior to hiring Bogner.
