Meeting to determine fate of OHS hockey

‘It was a strange winter without being at the arena for Wildcats Hockey,? said Oxford High School Athletic Director Mike Watson. In hopes of having a team next year, an informational meeting will be held on March 28 at 6 p.m. in the OHS cafeteria.
‘The first step is to determine if enough kids are interested in playing high school hockey for Oxford,? Watson said. ‘Without enough student interest, no team will be sponsored.?
To get interest generated, he has sent e-mails to parents of Oxford Middle School students, announcements have been made over the high school’s PA, the athletic director’s Twitterfeed, the OHS athletic website and now to the newspaper. A signup sheet has also been posted outside the athletic office.
‘My goal is simple: To determine how many kids are interested in playing hockey for their school. If we have significant interest, we may form a cooperative agreement with Avondale High School,? added Watson.
‘There have been a few parents contact me about the meeting and the prospects of re-forming the team. However, I’ve not had one student sign up in the office so we’ll see what happens.?
