When it comes to Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) students, Oxford Schools is down approximately 83 from the fall count, which equates to a student population of 5,345 FTEs, based on the spring count day held Feb. 12.
‘We budgeted for fewer students for the second count,? said Superintendent Dr. William Skilling. ‘That has been the trend. However, we were down more than anticipated.?
The State Foundation Allowance is currently $7,145 per student, but Skilling explained for the spring count, they only receive 10 percent of that money, which comes out to $714.50 per student. Originally, he said the district expected to lose around $25,000, but given the count is less than expected, it will lose closer to $37,000.
‘It’s not a significant impact on the budget. We started the year projecting a $435,000 deficit,? Skilling added. ‘Currently, we are projecting approximately $235,000 in deficit, but with a plan to eliminate most, if not all, of the deficit by June 30, 2014. This year’s budget is in good shape.?
Assistant Supt. of Business & Operations Pam Anstey agreed. ‘I think we’re going to be okay,? she said. ‘We’re just going to look at things closely and scrutinize, and I think we’ll end in the black.?
