Trimesters will be history next school year for junior and senior high schoolers.
Clarkston’s Board of Education voted unanimously, Dec. 9, to switch from trimesters back to semesters.
Board Treasurer Joan Patterson met with Superintendent Dr. Rod Rock and Deputy Superintendent Shawn Ryan regarding the change’s affect on International Baccelaureate and CSM Tech students and she’s comfortable they will not be adversely affected.
“I was also concerned with juniors and seniors, they already plotted out their four years and made decisions based on the trimester schedule,” Patterson said. “I was assured by Mr. Ryan that the counselors will meet with juniors and seniors to make sure they will not be hurt by this change.”
The semester switch for Clarkston Junior High School and Clarkston High School begins with the 2014-15 school year. The change does not affect Clarkston elementary schools or Sashabaw Middle School.
The change in format is the result of a two-year analysis. The study concluded in November with surveys of parents and teachers in grades 8-12, Ryan said.
‘When asked if they were in support of the shift to semesters, 77% of parents and 78% of staff responded as ‘agree? or ‘neutral,?? he said.
‘In January, a comprehensive timeline will be shared with all stakeholders to provide a clear path for the move to the semester format. We appreciate your support through this process and look forward to a successful scheduling transition and a great 2014-15 school year.?
