Special Assessment Districts get OK’d in Addison

The Addison Township Board of Trustees approved three special assessment district resolutions during their last regular meeting after notifying all residents and holding a public hearing.
The first special assessment was for Lena Hill and Burnshill. The district calls for $295 per parcel for each of the next three years to cover maintenance and a 10 percent collection fee for the township. Petitions for the assessment were signed by owners of 12 out of the 15 parcels.
The second special assessment was for Donna Mae Lane, Donna Mae Court and Marcy Lane. The assessment calls for $120 per parcel for each of the next three years to cover maintenance along with a 10 percent collection fee. There are 27 parcels in the area and 14 property owners signed petitions while two property owners provided verbal consent.
There were no changes made to either of these special assessment districts.
The third special assessment district covers Low Wood Trail and Charitoo Ridge. Township Treasurer Dan Alberty clarified during the public hearing that maintenance will not be done on Charitoo Ridge; however, the parcel owners are assessed because the only access is through Low Wood Trail. This arrangement has been maintained for several years and is not new.
The assessment district calls for $200 per parcel for each of the next five years to cover maintenance along with a 5 percent collection fee for the township. The collection fee is different on this assessment because the township simply collects the money from the parcel owners and then turns the final amount over to the homeowner’s association.
There are 38 parcels in the area and 22 property owners signed petitions approving the special assessment district.
A second hearing on these three districts will be held in August for confirmation of the roll.
