Donut or burger? Have both!

Have you ever wondered how good an all-American hamburger would taste on a bun made of donuts? Well, now you can at DK Donuts & Burgers (1090 S. Lapeer Rd.).
After running Knapp’s Donuts for 17 years in downtown Rochester Hills, David and Ky Lee decided to move their operations here to Oxford.
‘We came out this way because we saw there was an opportunity out here in Oxford to fill the void for authentic original donuts, Mom and Pop (style),? David said. ‘We’ve been trying to work on this place for the last three years and we finally got it up and running and finally we’re here.?
In addition to donuts and burgers, they offer muffins, pastries and bagels, as well as a variety of breakfast sandwiches with eggs, bacon, ham, sausage and cheese. Hot coffee, cappuccino and milk are sold to wash it down.
Why did they decide to add burgers to the menu? David, who grew up on the west coast, said he has a cousin who has a similar establishment in Orange County California and it’s worked out well.
‘Most donut shops are done by noon and the rest of the day is kind of quiet,? he said. ‘My cousin would start serving burgers at noon and give away a free donut if you purchased a burger. I figured I will try it too then.?
However, David said they wanted to take it to the next level.
‘In addition to the traditional regular burger bun with the sesame seeds, we’re also using the glazed donuts or custom made burgers. We have people trying it with cinnamon roll bun, apple fritter bun, chocolate glazed bun and the latest maple glazed,? he said. ‘It’s fun and people seem to be enjoying it. The youngsters love it.?
So far they’ve had nothing but positive feedback on both their donuts and burgers, noted David.
‘People here are very happy to see us open up. Many people have said, ‘I’ve been waiting for you to open for a very long time,?? added Ky. ‘Everybody is so glad and I have a good feeling. They’ve made us feel very welcome.?
‘DK Donuts & Burgers? is open Monday through Thursday from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday from. 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
‘We’re here to try to do our best to put the finest products out there,? David said ‘Hopefully the community will come out and support us, try our donuts and burgers and taste it for themselves.?
