Ladys Cats fall to Clarkston in districts

The Lady Wildcats finished their season Friday night with a 16-6 record and second place in the OAA White Division. ‘Clarkston proved too strong for Oxford down the stretch as they defeated 36-17 in the Wildcats in the district championship.
‘Both teams had a slow start, with Clarkston taking an 8-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. Oxford made a run early in the second quarter to go ahead 9-8, but Clarkston was able to finish the quarter with a run of its own and took a 16 – 11 lead into half time,? said Team Stats Keeper Brian Murphy. ‘The game was decided in the third quarter as Clarkston outscored the Wildcats 14 – 3. The final quarter was another low scoring affair as both coaches substituted often.?
This year’s graduating seniors include: Shelby Davis, Miranda Murphy, Kelsey Harrison, Megan Neff, Courtnee Sellers and Riley Hayes.
‘This year’s senior class will surely be missed as they have formed the backbone of the program for the last three years,? added Murphy.
Returning next year to lead the pack will be Jessica Murphy, Cherilyn Banas and Samantha Medici.
Earlier in the week on Feb. 27, the Lady Wildcats upset Romeo 56-39 for the district title.
‘Oxford took control early in the 1st quarter and kept their defensive pressure the entire game. Leading 28 ? 15,? Murphy said. ‘Oxford picked up where they left off, outscoring Romeo 11 – 7 in the third quarter and matched their 17 points in the fourth.?
Oxford was led by Jessica Murphy with 18 points. Seniors Shelby Davis and Miranda Murphy contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.
