Santa Claus should find his arrival to Goodrich’s Downtown Christmas, planned for 5-9 p.m., Dec. 6, a lot easier following Monday night’s village council meeting.
Patty Plant, coordinator of the annual Christmas event, said Hegel Road between M-15 and Senica Street will be closed to traffic during the gathering. Through traffic can use Erie Street to bypass the Downtown Christmas.
‘It’s a matter of safety for those in the street who come to the event,? said Plant. ‘Last year more than 300 attended the Christmas celebration. We anticipate a great turnout this year and plenty of fun in the downtown area.?
As in past years, Santa Claus will arrive via the Atlas Township Fire Department.
The Goodrich-Atlas Chamber of Commerce sponsored event will include a tree lighting ceremony, choirs, carol singing and the reading of the Christmas story. The downtown area will feature street vendors, music and decorated store fronts.
‘This is a great opportunity for community groups, churches, businesses and school or club groups to participate in a service project or fundraising,? she said.
