Two mobile home fires considered suspicious

Brandon Twp.- Arson is suspected in the recent burning of two empty mobile homes in the township.
Firefighters responded to a blaze at 2:56 p.m., Aug. 18 in the area of Mulberry and Paw Paw in the Sashabaw Meadows Mobile Home Park. Upon arrival, two trailers were on fire’one that was fully involved and on which the roof collapsed within minutes, and the other with one wall engulfed in flames.
Brandon Fire Chief Dave Kwapis said the trailers were in the process of being decommissioned and scrapped. As such, they were already empty of appliances, carpet and cabinets.
Firefighters treated the blaze as a defensive operation, spraying water on surrounding vegetation to avoid having the fire spread across grass and trees.
‘Thankfully there has been a lot of rain lately or it could have been disastrous,? Kwapis said. ‘We are considering the fire suspicious in nature.?
