Personal bests were falling by the wayside as the varsity swim team improved to 3-0 on the season following a 122-63 over Royal Oak on Thursday, Jan. 5.
Out of the eight event wins Oxford picked up during the evening, six of the winners established personal best times.
Individual results were:
200 Medley Relay – Oxford’s A relay of sophomore Blake Hibdon, Dwight Merrill, sophomore Erick Vandecar and senior Joey Tasch finished first with a time of 1:54.13. The B relay of junior Corey Jones, freshman Chad Scribner, sophomore Tim Cook and junior Devon Wagner was third.
200 Freestyle – Freshmen Cheyne Stresky won the event in a time of 2:05.75. Seniors Sean Thomas and Daniel Stockard finished third and fourth respectively.
200 Individual Medley – Vandecar finished first in a personal best time of 2:20.22. Sophomore Lewis Marshall and Scribner were fourth and fifth respectively.
50 Freestyle – Junior Jarred Butler won the event, finishing with a personal best time of 23.52. Joey Tasch and Jones were third and fourth respectively.
Diving – The Wildcats swept the diving competition with senior Matthew Campagiorni earning a personal best 187 points. Freshmen Jared Tasch and sophomore Marco Campagiorni rounded out the top three.
100 Butterfly – Vandecar won the event with a personal best time of 1:03.81. Hibdon was second and Cook finished fourth for Oxford.
100 Freestyle – Butler finished first with a personal best time of 51.57, while Joey Tasch touched out a Royal Oak swimmer for second.
500 Freestyle – Stresky took first with a personal best time of 5:28.11. Marshall finished in second and Thomas was fourth for the Wildcats.
200 Freestyle Relay – Oxford’s A relay of Butler, Vandecar, Joey Tasch and finished first with a time of 1:40.33, which was .06 off the school record time of 1:40.27. The B relay of Scribner, sophomore Douglas Butkiewicz, sophomore Chris Lavender and Cook was third.
100 Backstroke – Hibdon finished first with a time of 1:07.40, while Jones finished second and Stockard placed fifth.
100 Breaststroke – Senior Dwight Merrill finished second with a time 1:14.89, which was less than a second off of the lead. Scribner finished third for Oxford.
400 Freestyle Relay – Oxford A relay of Butler, Thomas, Stresky and Merrill finished second in a time of 4:04.54, while the B relay of Butkiewicz, Cook, Stockard and Jones finished third.
Varsity swim and dive coach Jackie Rank was looking forward to the boys next meet, a double duel meet, against Farmington Harrison and North Farmington, which takes place at home on Thursday, Jan. 12.
‘This is a big rivalry meet for the two Farmington schools, so they are going to come out swinging,? Rank said. ‘I’m really looking forward to surprising them with the talent that Oxford holds.?
