Building a Kingdom

The Memorial Day weekend saw numerous volunteers helping to build Oxford’s new Kids Kingdom playground in Seymour Lake Township Park.
Construction of Michigan’s largest playground began on Thursday with 75 volunteers and crew leaders preparing the area and laying out the design. Friday had 100 volunteers and Saturday had 300. By Sunday, construction was complete, and 350 volunteers celebrated their hard work.
On Sunday, kids enjoyed bouncing in a hot air jumper, while adults were treated to performances. The evening ended with a pig roast and the official opening of the park. Around 150 children took to the equipment for an evening of fun and exercise.
And the popularity has taken off from there – pictured below is Oxford tot Grace Ruegsegger, 2, enjoying a curly slide, while Lake Orion youth Nathaniel Wilson, 3, goes down one of the larger slides with Oxford resident Suzanne Schmidt.
Volunteers have moved on to the next stage of construction – over $5,000 in private donations have been raised for new restrooms in the area.
