Swimmers do well at state finals

The varsity girls swim team had an all-around good day when they took some of the best division two state swimmers at the Holland Aquatics Center on Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19.
Four girls participated over the weekend, freshmen Taylor Curtis, sophomore Haley Kornburger and seniors Amanda delaPaz and Claire Patrell.
Kornburger, who competed in the 50 Freestyle and 100 butterfly, would make the all-state team in both events following a third place finish in the 100 butterfly and a fifth place finish in the 50 freestyle.
She set the school record in the 100 butterfly by 1.4 seconds with her Friday time of 57.14. On Saturday, she swam the event in 57.19 seconds. In the 50 freestyle, she posted a time of 24.26.
The 200 free relay team of Curtis, delaPaz, Patrell and Kornburger finished 19th overall in 1:44.87, while the team wound up 18th and set a school record in the 400 relay.
Their time of 3:49.29 was one second faster than the previous record.
Curtis would also establish a personal best time in the 200 freestyle, finishing 29th in 2:00.83. She also swam a 56.34 in the 100 freestyle to finish 33rd overall.
