Goodrich will be sending a strong contingent from their boys and girls track teams to the Division 2 State Finals.
Six members of the girls track team and two members of the boys track team will be on their way to the finals, which will be held May 31.
The Goodrich girls also excelled as a unit, placing second at the Bad Axe regional May 17 with 67 points. Essexville-Garber won the regional with 115 points.
The first two finishers in each event, as well as predetermined qualifying times/distances, determine which regional competitors head to states.
The 3,200 meter relay team of Kristin Poulos, Samantha Minkler, Jane’e Jones and Jillian Zirnhelt finished second in that event to qualify for states.
Michelle Elliott qualified for states in two events, finishing second in the 100 hurdles (17.26) and the 300 hurdles (49.99). Jones finished first in the 1,600 meter race, with her time of 5:23.3 tying the school record set by Becky Duda in 1988. Jones also qualified in the 800, finishing third (2:25.7).
The other Goodrich girls track team member to qualify for states was Rebecca Scott in the shot put (35?2?).
Geoff Misek carried the banner for the boys track team, winning the 1,600 meters (4:31.9) and placing second in the 800 (2:03.35). Andrew Benson also qualified for Goodrich, finishing second in the 110 meter hurdles (16.3).
