Cats maul Cougars for stirring homecoming win

Oxford’s homecoming victory Friday against Stoney Creek was also a coming out party for new freshman quarterback Glacier Wallington.
Wallington, starting in his first home game replacing the injured senior Vito Giannola, performed very well in leading Oxford to a 42-6 win.
The victory featured a 65-yard TD from run by Wallington and the bruising Wildcat running attack led by senior Prescott Line and the impressive Wildcat offensive line.
Line scored five times and has 19 rushing TDs on the season and more than 1,100 yards in five games. Against Stoney Creek he ran for 238 yards on 21 carries.
The five TDs came on runs of 5, 39, 16, 65 and 54 yards.
Coach Bud Rowley said he has been pleased the emergence of Wallington and said he needs to play more to improve.
‘He competes on every play and just needs reps to get better,? Rowley said.
Wallington completed four of eight passes for 41 yards. He ran for 94 yards, which included the 65-yard TD.
Oxford put the Cougars away early, marching to a 28-0 halftime lead and then cruising through the second half.
The Oxford defense held Stoney Creek to only nine first downs, 153 yards rushing and 61 passing.
Seventy-four of those yards came late in the fourth quarter on a TD run when both teams were playing their reserves.
Brennan Orr, Vinnie Griffith and Line led the defense.
The win improved the Wildcats? record to 3-2 in the Oakland Activities Association White Division. Oxford will travel to Rochester Adams High School for a 7 p.m. match.
