Goodrich Martian pair Big Ten bound

Two Lady Martians basketball players have caught the attention of two Big Ten schools.
Goodrich High School juniors, Taylor Gleason and Aketra Sevillian recently committed verbally to playing basketball for the women’s team at division one schools. Gleason, a 5-7 guard will play at the University of Michigan while 5-5 Sevillian will take to the court for Pennsylvania State University.
The pair were key players last season as the Martians girls basketball team finished with a record of 24-2. Gleason averaged 11.3 points, 4.3 assists and 83 steals per game while Sevillian averaged 10.7 points, 2.7 assists and 88 steals. They capped off the season at the state Class B finals, ultimately suffering a defeat to Dearborn Divine Child 54-52.
For Taylor, a point guard, even though a lot of the pressure is off, she’ll ‘still have the fire? when it comes to playing ball. She credits her father Pete, her trainer Luke Lloyd, and Al Martus, long time Goodrich Athletic Director who died of cancer earlier this year for helping her achieve the success that brought her a full ride scholarship.
‘They’re both very humble people,? said Jason Gray, GHS girl’s basketball coach for the past 12 years. ‘I know they’re very happy with their decisions.?
Gray added that while the pressure is off, that doesn’t mean the drive to play basketball is over.
‘Their work ethic is out of this world. They’re working on improving the little things; continuing to put the time in. (Both players can) enjoy the upcoming season and help us as much as they can, the focus is on winning for Goodrich.?
