The summer of fun continues here in Lake Orion with the annual fireworks show on the lake, this Saturday (July 2).
And, according the latest weather forecast from the National Weather Service station in White Lake, there is a ‘chance of thunderstorms? Saturday night, with a low around 64. That afternoon, the weather geeks call for the mercury to rise up to 88 degrees.
The rain date is the following Saturday, July 9.
Members of the private organization that sponsors the show, the Lake Orion Fireworks Association (LOFA), say this year’s show has been kicked up a notch from previous years.
‘There’s no way we can top last year’s finale,? Carl Cyrowski, LOFA president said, ‘So, we made the beginning and middle better.?
According to Cyrowski, last year’s show cost $25,000 to put on ? this year the LOFA hopes to raise and produce a $30,000 show. They’ve hosted card parties, and a breakfast on the lake last weekend. The major fund-raising effort, however, will come from the sale of raffle tickets for $25 each. Only 2,000 have been printed.
‘We’ve sold 75 to 80 percent of them,? Cyrowski said. ‘And we are still selling them.?
Of the 20 cash prizes, the first three prizes are $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000. Lake Orion Village Police Chief Jerry Narsh will draw the winning tickets on July 7.
Tickets are available at ten locations in around Lake Orion Village at these locations: Hollywood Market, CJ’s Sandbar, Pugh’s Party Store, Christi’s Bar and Grill, G’s Pizza, Hamlin Pub, Sagebrush Cantina, Valerio Gas Station, Culver’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Lakes Community Credit Union, Abacus Accounting and Harvest Time Market.
This Friday is the annual Flare Night. Members of the Lake Orion Lions Club sell flares and home owners around the lake put them on their seawalls. When they are lit, the effect is stunning.
One of the best places to watch the fireworks is in Green’s Park, which is right on the lake, off of M-24 and south of Flint Street. This year there will be concessions and vendors in the park for the first time. To get into the park you will need a pass.
According to folks at the Lake Orion Village offices, Green’s Park passes are still available. Village residents $1, kids 12 and under and seniors 62 and over are free. Orion Township residents, $4 for adults; kids and seniors $2. Folks from out of the community the cost is $5 and $3.
To get passes go to the Village offices thru Friday (NOT on Saturday!), from 9 to 4:30.
