Oakland County Sheriff’s in Addison Twp. helped the Auburn Hills Police Department recover a stolen vehicle.
Kalamazoo resident Andrea Jenkins, 23, was arraigned on charges of unlawful driving of an automobile after she allegedly stole her friend’s vehicle June 10.
Jenkins appeared before Magistrate Andra Dudley at the 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills on Saturday, June 11. She received a $25,000 bond, no 10 percent.
On Friday, June 10 around 10:28 a.m., Addison Twp. deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle on Mountain Estates Rd. and Mack Rd. in Addison Twp. Upon their arrival, they observed a black Saturn Ion 200 stopped in the roadway with it’s hazard lights on.
After running the license plate, deputies discovered the vehicle was listed as stolen out of Auburn Hills.
Deputies proceeded to make contact with the driver, who was later identified as Jenkins, and discovered she was allegedly smoking crack cocaine.
An Addison Twp. deputy identified himself to Jenkins and asked her to roll down her window. According to the report, she ignored his request and continued smoking crack cocaine, causing the deputy to call for backup.
Repeated attempts were made by the deputy to contact Jenkins while waiting for backup.
The deputy then deployed his lockout kit in order to gain access to the vehicle, but was not able to gain entry due to Jenkins holding her finger on the lock button.
The report indicated she also kept grabbing the tool in order to keep the deputy from opening the door.
According to the report, the deputy warned Jenkins the window would be broken if she did not open the door, and upon arrival of backup, the deputy smashed the passenger window with his ASP and entered the vehicle through the passenger door.
After unlocking the drivers side door, deputies simultaneously gained control of Jenkins. However, she resisted arrest, causing deputies to pull her from the vehicle and take her to the ground.
She was handcuffed without further incident and placed in the back of the squad car. Addison Twp. Fire Department was called after Jenkins complained of her stomach hurting.
After being taken to Crittenton Hospital for medical clearance, Jenkins was taken to Oakland County Jail for allegedly being in possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.
