Map out the parade route because the Oakland Activities Association blue golf division belongs to the varsity boys from Oxford.
By beating Troy Athens 146-152 and placing first at the second OAA league tournament, head coach Terry Kelley and his boys captured Oxford’s first ever OAA divisional golf title.
‘It was a thrill for us,? Kelley said. ‘I think the boys worked really hard from the beginning of the year and were able to maintain that sharpness pretty much all the way through.?
The Wildcats finished their duel portion of the season undefeated at 9-0 after defeating Troy Athens on Tuesday, May 17. Doug Piesko lead the Wildcats with a 35 and J.J. Lewis followed with a 36.
Rounding out the scoring for Oxford was Justen Crouse with a 37 and Josh Hosking with a 38.
At the league tournament on Tuesday, May 27, the Wildcats ran away with the tournament, winning by 15 strokes. Piesko was the medal winner of the day, shooting a 67.
Lewis shot a 72, Hosking shot a 77 and Nick Hocker shot a 78.
Kelley credited their balance from top to bottom for the team’s success this season.
‘When one of our aces slips a little bit, somebody else seems to comes through,? he said. ‘It was a great regular season and we are proud of what we accomplished.?
District play begins on Thursday, June 2 at Paint Creek Country Club in Lake Orion.
‘It’s going to be a very competitive district and their are going to be a number of good teams in it,? Kelley said. ‘The boys are well aware of what they have to do to qualify for regionals. If they continue to work like they have, I’m pretty sure they are going to make noise.?
According to Kelley, out of the 14 teams, the top six teams will advance to regionals, along with the six lowest scores of boys whose teams did not qualify for regionals.
