Talented families entertain seniors

Seniors at Independence Village of Waterstone got a special treat on Thursday, March 10 when two families came together to show off their musical talents.
Amy Harmon, of Holly, and her five children – Anna, 11, Grace, 10, Marie, 8, Micah, 5 and Joel, 1, along with Darcy Mazza of Clarkston and her five children – Frankie, 8, Melina, 6, Mia, 4, Eliana, 2 and Sophia, eight months, have been coming to Independence Village and using their musical talents to minister to seniors.
Only Anna, Grace, Marie, Micah, Frankie, Melina and Mia perform. They sing from a collection of children’s hymns and inspirational music, play the piano and showcase their talents on recorders, much to the delight of those in attendance.
According to Harmon, after their families met at church, both she and Mazza talked about wanting to start a children’s ministry in order to instill in their children the need to bless others.
‘We both really had a heart with older people and (a desire) to teach our children an appreciation for the older generation,? Mazza said.
Both families have a passion for music; Harmon went to college to study music and her husband is a musician when he is not working, while Mazza took piano lessons when she was younger and also has a husband who plays the drums in regular bands and church bands.
So it was natural for Harmon and Mazza to turn their love of music into a ministry for others. The choice to begin their ministry at Independence Village was easy for Mazza. Her grandmother-in-law was a resident. ‘We called and they said we could come,? she said.
They have been regular fixtures at Independence Village since they first started back in November. Even though the residents at Independence Village agree the singing families are wonderful, it is Harmon and Mazza who walk away touched every time.
‘We came to bless them, and in turn we have been incredibly blessed by coming,? Mazza said.
