The varsity boys basketball team couldn’t overcome a 15 point first quarter deficit in their 77-63 loss to Farmington on Thursday, Jan. 27.
After running out to a 25-10 lead after the first quarter, Farmington continued their hot shooting, finishing 19 of 24 in the first half, or 79 percent, to take a 44-27 lead at halftime.
Oxford was able to pull within 10 points, 65-55 with over five minutes left in the game, but that was as close as Farmington would let them get.
‘We had a couple of shots that didn’t fall and unfortunately we got sort of in a panic mode and lost our composure and started rushing things,? head coach Paul Marfia said.
Junior Mark Hazelwood led the Wildcats with 19 points, while senior Chris Calvin posted another double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Junior Jacques Toussant and senior Vincent Hailburton each scored eight points for the Wildcats.
‘I thought the story of the game was their shooting,? Marfia said. ‘They shot tremendously. When you find a team that is that hot, it’s difficult, and that happens in basketball.?
The Wildcats are currently 4-6 overall, 2-4 in the Oakland Activities Association’s blue division. They play at Hazel Park on Tuesday, Feb. 1 and at Lasher on Friday, Feb. 4.
