The Varsity Boys Soccer team kicked off Oakland Activities Association play this week and got a mixed bag of results.
On Thursday, Sept. 2, the Wildcats got shutout by Farmington 5-0.
However, they were able to capture their first ever OAA win by defeating Ferndale 4-3 on Tuesday, Aug. 31.
The Wildcats were able to strike first after junior Doug Klimbal ripped a shot past the Ferndale keeper after taking the feed from senior Dan Peck. This came after senior Kevin Rain hit the crossbar within the first five minutes of the game.
Oxford went up 2-0 when Peck set up junior Marco Bonfiglio.
After limiting Ferndale to one shot in the first half, they came out and scored a quick goal to cut Oxford lead in half, 2-1.
But they gave the Wildcats a huge gift when Klimbal’s long throw-in bounced off of a couple Ferndale players and past their goalie, pushing the lead back up to two.
Ferndale would score again on a penalty kick, but Oxford responded less than a minute later when Bonfiglio scored his second goal of the game.
The Wildcats improve to 6-1 overall, and 1-1 in the OAA White Division.
