Addison Twp. Park will be rockin and rolling on Friday, Aug. 20 as the Friends of the Addison Twp. Public Library present Music in the Park.
‘This is a first for the Friends of the Library,? said Lynn Boehmer, the President of Friends of the Library.
The event will run from 7-9 p.m. at the Addison Twp Park, located at 1440 Rochester Rd. in the township complex next to Fire Station #2.
‘We thought it would be a good way to bring attention to the library,? Boehmer said.
She thought it would be a good idea to put on ‘Music in the Park? because she saw how popular community concerts were in Oxford and Lake Orion.
‘Oxford has done it and I have gone to those and Lake Orion does it and so do other communities,? she said. ‘We are not such a big community to do weekly things all summer, but we thought it would be nice to have one event like that.?
Audience members will be delighted with the ?3 Way Street Band,? a classic rock and roll and rock ‘n blues band that plays hits from the 1950’s through the 1980’s.
‘We pretty much thought that we wanted somebody that could play a little bit of variety and something that most people in the crowd would enjoy,? she added. ‘So someone suggested this band and a couple members of the board were able to watch a video on Youtube of them and we decided to go with it.?
The idea came out after the Friends of the Library sat down and brainstormed ideas that would be enjoyable and attract a large crowd.
‘We always talk about ideas and we usually come up with different activities that we could do and then we say lets try this one or that one,? Boehmer said.
‘It’s outdoors in the park, so everybody can bring a chair and enjoy it,? she added. ‘People can bring in food and beverages, but no alcohol since it is a township park.?
In addition to Music in the park, the library held previous events to get community support for the library. They had Baffling Bill the Magician come earlier in the year and recently just hosted a spinning and weaving workshop.
Friends of the Library also puts on their biggest event of the year, Fall Flavor Fest in October.
‘Music in the Park? is free to the public, but donations will be accepted. Friends of the Library will have a booth setup and will be selling t-shirts and be handing out information about Friends of the Library.
‘Anyone can come and we hope to see a lot of people there having a good time,? Boehmer said.
