The Goodrich Martians tamed the Mt. Morris Panthers on June 5 scoring three runs through four innings, winning the game 5-1. The Martians captured their second district championship in the past three years.
‘We had runners in scoring position in the first, third and fourth innings but could not drive in those runs,? said Goodrich Coach Bob Foreback. ‘Last season Mt. Morris ended our year with a top of the seventh grand slam.?
‘We had defeated (Mt. Morris) three times during the year and they beat us in the districts. This year we lost to them three times during the regular season and then beat them in the districts.?
‘Matt Glowack pitched his best game of the season and did not commit an error during the three games of the districts.?
Mt. Morris came into the game with 30 wins this season.
Goodrich, now 29-11, will play Yale High School at Bay City John Glen in the first round of the State Regional game at 10 a.m. today. If the Martians win, they will take on the winner of the Mt. Pleasant vs. John Glen game at 3 p.m. today.
